Formal Wear Alterations
Getting the Perfect Fit!
Over the years, we’ve seen some amazing things. We’ve repaired vintage gowns, made strapless dresses to fit perfectly, shortened prom dresses and replaced zippers.
Our team of experienced tailors and seamstresses can handle any alteration no matter how complex.
We take pride in our work and we want you to be happy with the results. If we’ve done our job well, you should be able to tell that we’ve done anything at all (with the exception of visible mending).
Quoting a price
We don’t quote prices upfront
We can’t give you an accurate price without seeing the garment in person. The amount of work required will vary depending on the condition of the garment and the specific alterations you require.
Here’s how to get a price
- Come in for a fitting (you can book a fitting here: Book Online). This is the best way to get an accurate estimate for the cost of your alterations.
- We’ll take measurements and discuss your desired changes.
- Once the fitting is complete, we’ll give you a written estimate.
You’re under no obligation to continue with the work
You can choose not to proceed with the alterations after the fitting. However, there may be a small fee to cover the time for the appointment.
No fitting fee for going ahead with the work
If you decide to go ahead with the alterations, there is no fitting fee.

Having a fitting
Why have a fitting?
No matter what garment you’re bringing in, it’s always best to have a fitting. This will ensure that the alterations are done correctly and that you’re happy with the results.
What happens during a fitting?
You’ll try on the garment and we’ll assess how it fits. We’ll use pins to mark where the alterations need to be made. This will give you a good idea of how the finished garment will look.
How long does a fitting take?
Most fittings take less than 20 minutes. However, it’s important to allow some extra time for us to chat about your desired changes.
What happens after the fitting?
We’ll give you a price for the alterations. You can then decide whether or not to proceed with the work.

Here are some additional tips for having a successful fitting:
- Wear or bring the underwear you intend to wear under the garment.
- Remember to bring your shoes.
- Be specific about your desired changes. The more information you can give us, the better we’ll be able to tailor the alterations to your needs.
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions. We’re here to help you get the perfect fit.
